I teach on a zoom a lot, and the biggest thing I learned since zoom-teaching is that you are a part entertainer & part teacher. Being able to bring enthusiasm and fun while maintaining the allure of professionalism is a desired skill to acquire and a lot of focus to maintain. If you’re not in the right mindset, your lecture may not be your best.
Before every lecture, I follow my own ritual that I have slowly developed that puts me in the right mindset to deliver and kick-ass class!
15-20 minutes before:
- 20x Squats
- 20x Pushups
- Doing a quick exercise helps me gain energy and mental clarity. Helpful if I’m feeling a little sluggish.
- Drink a glass of water.
- Spend 5-7 minutes in mindful meditation. Focusing on my breath and shut out my thoughts.
- The meditation is very helpful in giving me a moment to relax and be in an anxiety-free mindset.
- Shoot out my zoom link and see the list of students waiting in the waiting room.
- Look out my window and listen to Good Morning by Laxcity (such a mood booster) or a Kanye song.
- Take a last look at my agenda
- Whisper under my breath “It’s show time!”
- Click “Admit all”
For any teachers out there, do you have your own pre-lecture ritual?
