I’ve been keeping a daily log for some time now. It’s a journal that I have named “the daily log”; it goes with me everywhere. From my living room to my office, when I travel. This daily log is by my side, ready to be written whenever I want to.
However, it’s not the typical long hand journal that you may be imagining. It’s not the journal where I write down my current thoughts on my existential crisis or questions about the universe. That’s for another journal. It’s a mundane journal. It’s where I recap the events of the day prior and set my intention for the new day.
It’s mundane because I would write the simple things such as:
"Yesterday, I had a lovely Ashtanga practice, and I noticed the imbalance between my left and right shoulder. Maybe I should see a chiropractor."
"I made a lentil curry. It was yummy."
"I slept at 12:30AM"
"I miss my parents."
For some reason, the mundaneness of this journal makes me calm and in control of my life. A moment for myself to feel the world being still. It’s just me and my daily log.
Interested in keeping a daily log? Here is how I do it.
How to keep a daily log?
Before you start your workday, jot down the events of the day before in detail. Any significant or mundane events. Jot it down and how you felt about it.
Then Jot down what you're planning to do for the day and what you like to achieve.
That’s pretty much it. There is no definite structure. There is no right or wrong way to write it. As long as you capture the points above, you’re keeping your daily log (At least my version of it).
